This unincorporated community is located in Clearwater Township and Kalkaska County. Home to just over three thousand residents, this census-designated place has a long history and rich heritage, originally known as Van Buren, then Vanburen, and finally Rapid City in 1898. It wasn’t until 2010 that the community had officially defined boundaries, and today it has a total land area of five-and-a-half square miles.
